Volume conversion

Board feet to cubic metres

LumberCalc computes all outputs from one exact aggregate volume, so board feet, cubic feet and cubic metres remain consistent across imperial and metric input.

The exact relationship

One board foot is a volume of 144 cubic inches. One inch is exactly 25.4 millimetres, so the metric conversion can be derived without a floating conversion constant. The calculator keeps an exact rational value internally.

Round only after adding the tally

Rounding every row before addition can make a larger tally drift. LumberCalc adds exact row volumes first, then displays board feet and cubic feet to three decimals and cubic metres to six decimals.
